Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad (PC) (2011)

20141124:
So I went through the training and for the most part it was cool. However, there were arguably some bugs.

When I finally got into the multiplayer, I was first confused at who was on my team and who wasn't. Eventually I found out that only your teammates will have their IGN (in game name) on top of their head. This took some getting used to and was very helpful.

Next, I tried to understand the game mode running on the server I joined. After a while, I understood that it was an area control game: the team whose members occupy an area long enough come into control of it. Whenever you gain control of an area, you are allowed to try and capture the next area as indicated by the map. As such, its sort of like a push-of-war.

While difficult at first, I slowly began to get used to spotting enemies and firing on them. There was one particular kill where I lined the shot up, fired, and got it. Some shots were satisfying due to the distance of the shot.

However, there were several other times where I thought I had the upper hand, began lining up my shot, and then the enemy turns, lines up his shot, and instantly shoots me dead. I suppose its a mixture of skill and practice.

In the end, I played three or four rounds before ending my trial experience of Red Orchestra 2, and with this trial, I would recommend the game to those who enjoy multiplayer shooting games, but with a war theme. Of course, I'm unfamiliar with the genre as a whole, so definitely take the recommendation with a grain of salt.

Steam Game Time: 3 hours
