Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed (PC) (2013)

Reason for Playing: I wanted to play a video game with my son.
20220904:
Due to the difficulty of controls my son had with LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga, I decided to try this game which I figured is just left-right movement and holding down a button for acceleration. Unfortunately, the default controls for acceleration was RT and racing games actually require a lot of precision in terms of turning. In contrast, my son is just capable of pressing hard left or hard right. In addition, the position of the analog stick remained a problem. As another observation, a lot of his motions are still coordinated between his left and right hands. As applied to this situation, an example is that he would start to press both the right and left triggers in attempt to accelerate.

A solution for the acceleration would have been to remap the button. However I felt both the D-Pad and the analog stick would remain difficult to use and so I tried to hook up my Thrustmaster T16000M joystick, but there didn't seem to be a button for acceleration. When I went to configure the controller, a particular input was being sent which essentially made it impossible to reconfigure the controller.

After several attempts, I gave up and tried to connect a Wiimote. The Steam Deck recognized the Wiimote, but there was something fishy. As such, I booted up 1 Screen Platformer and tried the Wiimote there. I tried to use the in-game controller mapping, but only a subset of the Wiimote buttons were registering. Actually, I think all of the buttons were registering, but setting them up would be non-trivial. As such, I thought it would be best to reserve the Wiimote for Mario Kart Wii and give up on playing this particular game.

Steam Game Time: 0.9 hours* (total game time)
*Most of this is just trying to configure the controls
