Cube Link (PC) (2017)

Overview: A 3D puzzle game where the goal of each level is to connect pairs of colored squares with corresponding colored paths.

20190806:
As part of my goal of breaking even on my Humble Bundle purchases, today I played Cube Link, a game I acquired as part of the Yogscast Jingle Jam 2018 bundle.

Setup: 1920 x 1200. Windowed. Fantastic.

Gameplay Log:
First sort of challenging puzzle: Level 18. 3 minutes to solve. 6:15 to 9:33
"Medium difficulty": Level 22. 2.5 minutes to solve. 13:30 to 15:49
"Medium difficulty", piqued my interest: Level 26. 2.5 minutes to solve. 18:49 to 21:26
"Hard difficulty", part luck, part trial-and-error: Level 28. 10 minutes to solve. 23:20 to 33:16
Completed level 32 and was ready to call it a night, but then I realized there are 40 levels and I was close to a milestone (achievement at level 35).
"Insane difficulty": Level 37. 40 minutes to solve. 57:23 to 1:37:46

Steam Game Time: 105 minutes

20190807:
Finished the last three levels.

Gameplay Log:
Likely "Insane difficulty" turned "Hard difficulty" by using "pen and paper" (OpenOffice Calc) to help sort thoughts: Level 38. 35 minutes to solve.
Completed all 40 levels

Steam Game Time: 2.5 hours (total game time) / 0.7 hours (session game time)

Thoughts:
Pro:
+ Decent concept/challenge for sale price

Neutral:
~ 40 levels
~ Geometrically interesting

Cons:
- Difficulty of puzzles not well balanced
- Colors used are too similar

Summary:
Overall, the difficulty of the puzzles could have used some tweaking and/or playtesting. A reasonable game if bought for sale.

20251025 Comment: I didn't quite understand what I wrote. I interpreted that I was assigning difficulties to certain levels. I will go back and add quotation marks around these difficulties. And for level 38, the idea is by using a spreadsheet, I was able to turn a level that would be "Insane Difficulty" into just "Hard Difficulty".
