I wanted to play the game, but it was stuck checking for updates. I thought that was strange, because I thought the Steam platform would be responsible for keeping the game up-to-date. Doing a search, I found a Steam thread where a user encountered the same problem and solved it by allowing the game through his/her firewall.

I played through one of the gun models on my Steam Deck, and it was an okay experience. While some games are definitely reasonable to play on the Steam Deck, this game would just be so much better with a mouse. As an aside, I understand that I can plug a mouse into the Steam Deck like any other PC, but I'm specifically referring to the standalone experience. Worded differently, the game is playable on the Steam Deck, but I'd rather play the game with a mouse for more precise control.
Setup: Steam Deck.
Steam Game Time: 3.9 hours (total game time)
Thoughts:
Pros:
+ surely the game is not a replacement for actual gun disassembly, but it feels like a very polished simulation
+ a variety of interactions: slow motion, cutout views
+ replay value (e.g., try to disassemble or assemble the gun faster)
+ free-to-play where purchases simply accelerate unlocking guns*
+ the game does a great job of visually displaying all the parts
Neutral:
~ I don't know anything about actual guns, but the game is an interseting exposure to the many parts that make up a gun
*Guns can be unlocked by acquiring credits. The player can purchase credits or purchase the World of Guns: Guns Full Access DLC. The DLC regularly goes for $49.99, but often goes on sale. During the Steam Summer Sale 2022 and Steam Summer Sale 2023, the DLC was on sale for $14.99 (70% off from the full price).
