Reason for Playing: AStats Score: 9.5 (87 votes)

20210830:
I saw this on AStats and felt like I owned it. It turns out I did own it, having obtained a copy of it from Epic Games.

Setup: Keyboard. At the control screen, press C to confirm.

Gameplay Log:
Madeline. Completed Chapter 1. 6/20 Strawberries. 87 Deaths.

EPIC - You've Played: 28m ##s

First Impressions:
The game takes a while to get used to the combinations of dash, climb, and jump. In addition, dash has to be used in conjunction with the arrow keys. However, it feels rewarding to collect execute the combinations in order to progress and/or collect the optional strawberries.

Overall, I enjoyed the simplicity of the game. It is simultaneously simple and difficult - though some of the difficulty is allocated in collecting strawberries which are optional. As such, players with a range of platformer skills can enjoy the game.

Recently I started looking through games on steam250.com. Celeste is ranked 39th best and I thought I should continue it. However, rather than finish the game, perhaps I will play a chapter a day. Or maybe I'll save this game for the day far off in the future when I get a Steam Deck (though there may be some setup involved to get the EPIC Games Launcher working).

Gameplay Log:
Madeline. I started playing some more.
At one point I thought I reached a checkpoint (she was on a payphone and got gobbled up by a monster), so I went to the menu and lost some progress.
Starting back at Chapter 2, Intervention.
Replaying it was easy, but it turns out I wasn't far from completion of the chapter, just had to move forward a couple of screens. Silly...

Today I decided to try to play this game on my Steak Deck. I first moved my save file from EPIC Games over to the Steam folder and loaded it up on PC to make sure the file successfully transfered over. That save file would sync to the cloud and then I booted up the game on my Steam Deck.

I played in the afternoon from around 4 to 5 PM. Early on, I changed the Steam Deck controller layout and binded "R2" to dash. This was much more intuitive than using "B" to dash.

The PICO-8* minigame was fun, but I had wished progress was saved.

*20220731: Apparently PICO-8 is a fantasy console, and the original version of Celeste was written as a PICO-8 program during a game jam.
20220730: I woke up (early) and decided to play a little. I started with the PICO-8 minigame, and verified that it did not save the player's progress. In any case, I made it as far as collecting a double dash power. Afterwards, I resumed the main game but didn't get so far. I was discouraged by a level, in part due to my sleepy and somewhat disgruntled mood.

I recall I played Celeste on this day because I didn't have internet. In addition, I was bored of playing 1 Screen Platformer. The current section uses this pink ball mechanic. The player can choose the initial direction of the ball and dash out of it. As a separate new mechanic, there are also blocks which are activated when Celeste's dash is used. There are some interesting puzzles formed from these two new mechanics.
