Overview: In Proteus, explore an island and experience the sounds and visuals it has to offer.
20170325:
Attempting to knock down several games off a game list I made the other day (using Depressurizer v0.7.2.0), I decided to play Proteus after having tried Sugar Cube: Bittersweet Factory (PC) (2010).
While tempted to look at a guide, I stayed strong and ultimately experienced Proteus without one.
Setup: Default settings. Keyboard. Fullscreen.
Steam Game Time: 34 minutes
Thoughts:
Pros:
+ Great soundtrack, though it borders on experimental music, so it might not be for everybody
+ Visually pleasing - in an artistic way
+ Relaxing
Neutral:
~ No clear objectives
~ Walking simulator
Comparison:
My first impression was that the game would be similar to Dear Esther (PC) (2012) or MirrorMoon EP (PC) (2013). However, other than the walking, Proteus was not similar to either.
Summary:
Proteus was a relaxing experience and I would highly recommend playing it with a good pair of headphones. However, whether or not you should play it to begin with is a different story. At best, I would recommend it if you enjoy the journey, and not the destination.
