Ghost Squad (Wii) (2007)

Overview: A light gun rail shooter. Originally released on arcade.

I played this game back in college and remembered having lots of fun with it. As I had been been playing more co-op video games with my friends, I recalled Ghost Squad could be played with four players and decided to look for the game. After a successful search on GameStop's website, I went to my local GameStop where I got a used copy of the game. I also picked up Dead Space: Extraction and LEGO Harry Potter Years 1-4. I was pleased. Though I eventually learned that the arcade mode supports only up to two players, while the party mode supports up to four players.

Tip: Party mode is just for fun, but can be played with up to four people.
Tip: Play through the arcade mode (one or two players) to unlock guns and costumes.

I played through the game with my sister. I learned through an internet search that you need to attempt all three levels before your profile is saved. Prior to learning this, I was definitely confused and/or frustrated.

Wii Game Time: 55 minutes (total game time)

*According to the Wii playtime history, I first played this game on 20120702. Since this entry has an edit date of "20120702," I inferred that 201207XX should be 20120702.

Today Josh and I, after playing a round of the game and leveling up our profiles, went to party mode and tried the Paradise option. It was hilarious. All the enemies are now girls in bikinis, but the voices are still male. Hostages are still in their original skins, but bosses have new ridiculous skins. The first boss for example is wearing a headband with two flashlights, which are turned on, sticking up like horns. The vehicles that show up in the game also get makeovers. Other aesthetic changes include exotic doors and colorful mushrooms around the mines. In terms of gameplay, all players use water guns, which are single shot weapons and the ammo (water) falls downward by the effect of gravity more quickly than a bullet. Hence, if you aim at an enemy's head, but they're far away, then you will hit below their head or possibly miss, especially if they are behind cover.

Wii Game Time: 8 hours 40 minutes (total game time) / 1 hour 9 minutes (session game time)

Over the course of my summer vacation (201207), Josh and I would often spend some time to complete the full set of three levels every time we hung out. I'll make a note to check how far we advanced the next time I boot up the game.

Thoughts:
Pros:
+ the ability to calibrate the Wii Remote for more accurate aim; it is by no means perfect, but better than nothing.
+ light gun arcade experience at home
+ elements to bring the player back such as unlockables and alternate paths

Neutral:
~ fairly short to run through
Summary:
None at the moment
