Overview: A roguelike with a deck-building combat system.
20210713 Part 1:
I tried to play this on the television, but the screen was so far away that the text was hard to read. So I stopped playing after 16 minutes and went upstairs to play on my computer. But it wasn't installed and I felt sleepy while installing it, so I went to sleep.
Setup: TV and steam controller (as mouse).
Steam Game Time: 16 minutes
20210713 Part 2:
My first run ended on floor 25. I never passed up on adding a card to my deck. Though not long prior to my death, I was greedy and used the upgrade instead of the heal option at the rest site. On a different note, I knew that at some point it isn't worth adding every card, but I didn't know what that point would be and perhaps it was better just to acquire cards to learn how they work. The game is fun. I can see why so many people enjoy playing it.
Setup: mouse (and computer monitor).
Gameplay Log:
The Ironclad
Slain on Floor 25 by Centurion and Mystic. Score: 211
First Impression: With just one run, I've barely scratched the surface but I've already had an enjoyable experience. The game reminds me of Dominion in how the deck is built over time. The main difference is that Dominion has a fixed common pool of cards to pick from - though the set of cards that make up that common pool is intented to vary from game to game. By design, a round of Dominion lasts around 30 minutes. In contrast, Slay the Spire is designed as an infinite survival run.
Steam Game Time: 90 minutes (session game time) / 106 minutes (total game time)

Gameplay Log:
The Silent.
- A poison based character
Some time ticked away while I was AFK.
Resumed game.
Finished Act 2.
Sleepy.
Steam game Time: 2.1 hours (session game time) / 3.9 hours (total game time)
Thoughts:
Pros:
+ Enjoyable game mechanic
+ For the most part the various buffs and debuffs are well explained
+ A gameplay history section in the main menu
Neutral:
~ Roguelike
~ Card game (lots of reading, building a deck is fun, RNG)

Slaim on Floor 33 by Bronze Automaton. Score: 326

The Ironclad
Huh. I played through this boss at Floor 50 except for the final showdown: I got the Awakened One to awaken and had its health down low but most likely it was ready to destroy me. Then I quit the game to put my son back to sleep. When I returned, the battle was back at the very start...
Which is okay, because there were some definite mistakes. For example, I had a potion which gave 6 Metallicize which I eventually used, but I should have used it sooner.
I tried again twice but it didn't help. Oh well.
Slain on Floor 50 by Awakened One. Score: 521
Steam Game Time: 3.6 hours (session game time) / 10.7 hours (total game time)
