Overview: Fieldrunners is a simple, yet entertaining tower defense game. Place towers on the map and destroy the enemy before they get to the exit. You will, however, need to place towers strategically in order to both deal damage and block the enemy's way.
20120818:
This was my first time playing the game and after eight tries I had a high score of 485970 (Classic, Grasslands, Round 99).
20120819:
20120820:
Today I got to Round 100 on Grasslands (Classic), getting a score of 487780. Afterwards I also got to Round 100 with a higher score of 487780.
I also got to Round 100 on Crossroads (Classic) on my first try, though only with a score of 250065.
20140824:
It's been a while since I've played Fieldrunners and a lot of the strategies I had developed from playing the game two years ago had been lost. It is, however, fun to compare the similarities in initial gameplans and later, more evolved, gameplans.
20140830:
I think today I started playing the game on my new phone (Samsung Galaxy S5) and found I couldn't use the bottom row. RIP.

Magicka (PC) (2011)
20120815:
Screenshots show I played from 2:53AM PT to 3:09AM PT. And those screenshots only go up to me fighting Behold the Watcher.
[20121225]
20120817:
Today the screenshots go from 7:07PM PT to 7:57PM PT. These screenshots start at helping the lady realize rats aren't a big deal compared to goblins and end at fighting Jormungandr (the boss at the end of Chapter 2). Josh came over some time before I got to Jormungandr and he watched me play.
[20121225]
20121224:
Today I had my friends Josh and Michael over, so I thought it might be fun to try three-player Magicka. Screenshots span from 11:26PM PT to 1:38AM PT of 20121225. We decided to stop playing after successfully completing the third chapter.
For controls, I used keyboard-and-mouse, Josh used my Logitech Gamepad F310 and Michael used my Logitech Dual Action. Sometime during the gameplay, we discovered that you don't have to press the right analog to choose spells. By the very end, Michael discovered that one doesn't have to wait for the spell icon to appear to continue on with the spell combination. This drastically shortened the cast time. This discovery also applies to the keyboard-and-mouse input.
Playing the game with three players is a lot more fun than playing it with just one player. Though to be clear, the fun comes from the mayhem, and not everyone will enjoy the disaster that's sure to come.
The game is also fun if the people you're playing with are more likely to understand various pop culture references. For example, Josh picked up on a Star Wars reference and an Indiana Jones reference and we all picked up, at least partially, on the video game references made during the introduction. For reference, the narrator Vlad says, "Stay a while and listen, and I will tell you a story. A story of Dungeons and Dragons, of Orcs and Goblins, of Ghouls and Ghosts, of Kings and Quests, but most importantly -- of Wizards and Vamp -- Well... A story of Wizards." (Diablo, Dungeons and Dragons, Warhammer, Ghosts 'n Goblins, and King's Quest)
Tip: There's a difference between casting a spell and a Magick. A Magick is a learned combination of elements. One can only cast a Magick once it has been learned. After entering the right combination, the default key to activate a Magick is spacebar on the keyboard-and-mouse and B (red) button on a gamepad.

Anomaly: Warzone Earth (PC) (2011)
Overview: Anomaly: Warzone Earth is a reverse tower defense.
20120801:
I started out playing Anomaly: Warzone Earth HD on my new phone. It was fun and I wanted to get some screenshots for it and so I ran Anomaly: Warzone Earth on my PC. I was surprised to learn, however, that the two games follow a similar story and idea, but the actual game play and mechanics differ.
[20120801][20190115 Edit]
Comparison of Anomaly: Warzone Earth (PC) and Anomaly: Warzone Earth HD (Android):
1) Using abilities:
PC: Use the commander to physically go to a location in order to collect and deploy abilities.
Android: Deploy and collect abilities with the touch-screen.
2) Gameplay:
PC: Complex and intricate, but more fun. For example, in the PC version, sometimes a disaster would occur that destroy the path and I would have to react and change the path.
Android: Simple and easy to learn. Feels fluid.
3) Graphics: The PC version has better graphics, hands down.
[20120801][20190115 Edit]
20140128:
I haven't played Anomaly: Warzone Earth in a while. Today I had trouble sleeping and played a little on my computer before going back to sleep.
While I stopped after only playing Mission 04 and Mission 05, I was reminded about the fun and strategy involved with the game.
Note that I may have previously found the Android version "easier to learn and more fluid than those for the PC version" simply because I played it first. Getting back into the PC version today, I didn't even have to replay Mission 01, 02, or 03 to remember how to play the game.
The only thing I had forgotten was that the Commander sets up a health station which lasts a short duration and that all units passing through its effect radius get healed. I realized this near the end of Mission 05 and prior to that I thought I was choosing which units to heal.
Random Note: The story has a total of 14 missions.

Setup: Playing on a Samsung Galaxy S3.*
Tip: I didn't know this until playing the PC version, but you can return to tactical view in the Android version and change the route of your units as often as you like. This allows you to go around and defeat, should you desire, more enemy units.
*I learned that I can take a screenshot on my phone by swiping the side of my hand from left to right across the screen. I later learned that I could also take a screenshot by simultaneously holding down the Home Screen button and the Power On/Off button.

Machinarium (PC) (2009)
Overview: A point-and-click adventure where you're a robot trying to save his girlfriend.
20120801:
On 20160205, without looking at my screenshots, I was under the impression that I stopped playing Machinarium before figuring out how to cross the bridge.
However, upon finding my screenshot record, I discovered that I figured out how to cross the bridge and stopped playing immediately thereafter. It's instances like these which remind me that memories are frail.
Steam Game Time: 13 minutes
[20160205]
20160205:
While I started this game once before, I just went ahead and started over from the beginning, achieving my previous progress point in approximately 11 minutes, 2-3 minutes faster than previous.
Afterwards I continued playing and stopped when I managed to open the first two jail cells and was stuck trying to figure out how to open the third; I was quite sleepy.
Thus far the game is fun and the puzzles varied in difficulty from medium to difficult but clickable options are limited so the game essentially guides me in the right direction. In addition, the game provides one hint per area but I've yet to use any.
Steam Game Time: 88 minutes (total)
Thoughts:
Pros:
+ Attention to detail, great artwork
+ Great soundtrack
+ Character development
Neutral:
~ I'm not used to shrinking the robot back to normal to regain his normal movement speed. It's a bit annoying.
Recommendation:
Amanita Design has among the best point-and-click adventure games out there and Machinarium doesn't disappoint. If you like Amanita Design's other adventure games (e.g., Samorost (2003), Samorost 2 (2005), Botanicula (2012)), then you should check out Machinarium and vice versa.
20210903:
I thought there would be a save file on Steam Cloud but there wasn't. I decided to start from the beginning.
Gameplay Log:
I was stuck and started reading. I read about the following (spoiler):
"The player should then make Josef go tall and shrink and keep doing this for a time. The Bird will copy Josef and start to bounce up and down on the wire."
I fell asleep with the game on - about 1 hour I was later stuck again and in the bar I used the hint book (that requires a little mini-game to reveal). Via the hint book, I learned that the barrel can be obtained by catching and releasing flies. I thought the flies were to be collected using a lightbulb and so that had me searching. Eventually I randomly tried the weird object (maybe it's a fly trap) and it worked [yes, according to the wiki it is flypaper]
There's a mini-game where the player unlocks a gun and defeats 40 enemies. It's tedious, but that's not the worst. The worst part of the experience was there sounded as though sometimes both the mini-game music and the main game music were playing simultaneously. Other than this, the music in the game was great.
Steam Game Time: 7.0 hours* (session game time) / 8.5 hours* (total game time)
*Includes apprxomiately 1 hour spent sleeping
